Artist Biography Houston was one of a handful of black artists to receive heavy rotation on MTV in the 1980s. She became the first artist to have seven consecutive U.S. number-one singles. Her 1992 Dolly Parton cover "I Will Always Love You" (from the soundtrack of The Bodyguard) became one of the biggest singles in music history. According to the RIAA she is the fourth most successful female artist of all time in the U.S., and she holds the record for having seven consecutive Billboard Hot 100 number one hits. Houston has branched out into acting and eventually became a businesswoman, setting up production and recording studios while continuing to record music. Today, Whitney ranks as the second best selling female ever behind Madonna (entertainer) with over 230 million records sold. |
